Beauty Alert || St. Ives Mixing Bar

Alert: There is a spot downtown that you MUST check out with your beauty besties. On Broadway, just south of Houston and smack dab in the middle of some of the best shopping in Manhattan, the St. Ives Mixing Bar is an entirely new kind of pop-up. Here, you can mix your own customized face scrub or body lotion containing St. Ives' highly effective natural ingredients. With testing stations, a photo booth, and friendly staff waiting to guide you through the space, the immersive experience is one not to be missed. As soon as I could, I stopped by the pop-up and got to mixing.

Enter and there is a wall with all types of natural items on display. St. Ives was using natural ingredients before natural ingredients were a thing (who hasn't sworn by their Apricot Scrub??) and, at the Mixing Bar, you get the chance to learn all about them with complete transparency. Step up and you'll find short descriptions explaining the ingredients' skincare benefits and from where St. Ives sources them. After perusing the ingredients and a menu of possible combinations, I decided to make a rich lotion with honey and ginger. I have chronically dry skin and honey is known for its skin nourishing power while ginger root is full of antioxidants so I felt it would be a winning addition to my arsenal of super hydrating body lotions (plus, a Mixing Bar staffer told me that combo smells deeelicious).

Right there at the bar, an associate will mix your custom concoction. Deb, my personal skincare mixologist, talked me through exactly what she was doing - from adding the extracts to measuring the fragrance. She also let me know that the rich body lotions are truly custom because all St. Ives lotions sold by retailers are a light formulation. The only way to get the rich lotion (a thicker consistency that goes on like a body butter) is to come by the Mixing Bar and create your own. And am I glad I did. My packed jar of Honey Ginger Lotion (they mix you a SIZABLE amount) has been my go-to post shower. I even use it before bed as a overnight treatment for my hands. A tester vending machine (honestly, a genius idea) at the pop-up sent me home with some St. Ives goodies I'm gladly trying out.

Come for the custom scrubs and lotions, stay for the testing stations, photo booth (there are oversized peaches, that's all I'll say), and truly swagged-out space. And don't forget to bring friends. A good beauty girl never keeps her skincare secrets.

The St. Ives Mixing Bar is open until July 30th at 577 Broadway.
