Beauty Beat || True Moringa Oil Review

While there are many things I'm happy to leave back in 2017, there are a few things I absolutely have to bring into 2018... most of them beauty related. I discovered some amazing products in 2017 that changed my skin for the better and I'll be dashed if I let old acquaintance be forgot.

In 2017, I learned that oil is my friend, for my face and my body. I've mostly relied on EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) for my body moisturizer but decided to switch it up in 2017 with moringa oil and, boy, was that a good choice.

A little about moringa. The plant hit the beauty scene a couple of years ago and made a splash. It was hailed not only as a super food (the plant's leaves are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, calcium, and iron) but as a super beauty ingredient. The seeds of the moringa tree can be pressed into a oil with a high anti-oxidant, behenic acid, linoleic acid, vitamin A, and vitamin C content. These components combine to form a potent oil with anti-inflammatory properties in addition to a strong support system against free radical damage. If you're like me (nearing 30 and beginning to take aging prevention seriously), then that is one convincing description for an oil.

One of the first brands I learned about that was paving the moringa way in the beauty space was True Moringa. The brand sources its moringa from Ghana, the country where True Moringa's co-founders first learned about the miracle plant and its potential to positively impact the area. Together, Kwami Williams and Emily Cunningham created a brand with a transparent supply chain that helps local communities and grows businesses in Ghana. For every purchase made on TrueMoringa.com, a moringa tree is planted in Ghana. It was a no brainer that for my first foray into moringa madness, I should try True Moringa's pure and organic moringa oil, sustainably made and consciously impacting its farmers, processors, and packers.

I dived right into my moringa oil trial from the start.  I completely switched my body care from EVOO to moringa oil, massaging it into my skin after the shower. I have very. very dry skin and can expect patches of painful eczema in the winter without fail. My dermatologist's literal words to me were: "Moisturize like there is no tomorrow," so I take my skin hydration regime pretty seriously. I noticed something immediately, the moringa oil absorbed into my skin much better than EVOO. The next thing that stood out was not immediate but even better.

Over the next couple of weeks, I started to notice something truly wonderful: my scars were fading. I have multiple scars on my legs because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to shave without nicking myself (come on. Ladies have a lottt of real estate to go over with what are basically tiny knives, so it's no surprise that every so often - okay, too often - I wound myself). I've tried different products that claim to reduce the appearance of scars but nothing has ever made a real difference. Here, for the first time, I could see a change in the tone and pigmentation of my scars. I wish I had taken a before and after photo but I didn't think to track my scars from the beginning. I finished one bottle of the stuff and was so delighted with the results, I jumped right into using the next rather than returning to my old skincare regime like I have in the past (if your skincare routine ain't broke, why fix it?).

Bottom Line: I'm a True Moringa convert. I've been using the product ever since and even make it a point to rub the oil into any scarring or discoloration before bed, such as a baking soda burn on my underarm from an organic deodorant (the first time an organic product bit me back... hard). My skin is hydrated, soft, and more evenly pigmented. The scars on my legs are not completely gone but moringa oil has done more to lighten them than anything I've ever tried. The product is also recommended for use as a facial moisturizer and hair oil. I love to use it on the ends of my hair as a frizz fighter and hair hydrator. If in 2018 you're looking to add an all-in-one power player to your skincare arsenal, let True Moringa's pure moringa oil be the one.
